Below is a still from the final comp . The matte painting is a collaborative work with my Rodeo FX former colleague Moika Sabourin . Moika and I had to provide many layers of buildings , electric poles and palm trees for a camera projection . Once the layers were finished , matte painting TD Martine Guay was responsible for setting the projection in Softimage that allowed for the proper parallax effect while the camera moved down . The camera then stoped in a dooryard to focus on the live action scene ( the fronteer between the matte painting and the plate is the top of the wall you can see at the bottom of the frame ) . Here comes the most difficult part of the task : As the client wanted to add grime to the walls , I had to erase all the trees present in the actual shot and make patches of dirt that would be later reprojected on a geometry matching the plate . It was a little bit touchy but it also made possible the deletion of an unwanted lens flare . Comper Laurent Spielmaker added the missing trees using miniatures photographied in the Rodeo FX studio .
