Below is a pure exercise of set extension . The modern port of the plate ( bottom left ) had simply to be replaced with 1940's looking elements . I first modeled , textured and lighted warehouses and the left foreground boat with Maxon Cinema 4D ( pic B ) . I assembled the render pass in Photoshop with a special care for the transition between the plate and the matte painting .The remaining task was left to comper Pierre Blain, who made my job match to the camera tilt of the plate . He completed the shot adding live footages of crowds , vehicles and water . Thanks to Ballistic Publishing for also printing that work in the book " Matte Painting 2 " .
